Computer Forensics

Computer Forensics Specialist

With computer crime rising at an alarming rate, the demand for computer forensics is expanding. Once strictly in the domain of law enforcement, computer forensics is moving quickly into corporate America. Corporate IT and information security professionals are racing to protect themselves from employees spilling trade secrets, from a “back door” that a security manager might have left for himself, or discovering incriminating spreadsheets, letters and Emails to prove embezzlement.

US companies spend millions of dollars on computer forensics and that amount is expected to grow at an even faster pace over the foreseeable future. Corporations are finding out that to protect their organization with a real security program, they need to know how digital crimes are committed, how to gather the evidence, and how to collaborate with law enforcement as the case evolves. In-house expertise is needed for performing proper computer forensics to protect further damage to systems, company assets and reputation.  Many are learning the hard way that strict forensic processes must be adhered to if they expect the evidence they submit to stand up in court.

While many software solutions exist to copy digital information, most of these prove inadequate in many situations. They may leave the door open for defense attorneys to shoot down the case, citing rare but real possibilities that the data may have been tampered with.  Verifying the authenticity of electronic evidence is crucial for conviction.

Hardware solutions, like Logicube Forensic Tools, are used to quickly copy hard drives including deleted or encrypted files, and are becoming mainstay tools for IT security. Not only are these tools unquestionably accurate, they are five or six times faster than software solutions. This is especially important in cases where the copy of the suspect drive must be made in a clandestine fashion or when the computer forensic specialist has a brief period of time to capture the data.

Computer Forensics is now being used extensively in the following arenas:

  • Insurance fraud discovery
  • Medical fraud discovery
  • Fighting child porn
  • Tracking down Missing children
  • Detecting and prosecuting money laundering
  • Identification and prosecution of Identity theft
  • Employee misuse of the internet
  • Fighting Espionage
  • Intelligence gathering for any criminal activity
  • Accounting fraud investigations

Logicube offers the world’s most sophisticated computer forensic hard disk data recovery system.  Logicube customers include the FBI, CIA, Secret Service, IRS, INS, NSA, DEA, ATF, Military Intelligence, NATO, Scotland Yard, Private Investigators, and many other law enforcement agencies, corporate security and IT personnel.

In addition to the forensic line of Logicube data capturing systems, Logicube offers a wide array of products to clone hard drives. These are duplicators that clone hard drives or duplicate hard drives at speeds ranging from 800 MB/min. to 3.5 GB/min. Many Logicube products are one-to-one hard drive duplication products built to the highest standards of excellence. In addition to the hand-held, one-to-one duplicators and tools to clone hard drives, Logicube has production grade hard drive duplicators that clone multiple drives at once. These multi-target hard drive duplication products will clone hard drives from 2 to 1o IDE drives at once. Many of these products are also USB ready and can duplicate hard drives through the USB ports of computers, laptops and desktops.

Logicube also offers various accessories to facilitate easier duplication using these tools to clone hard drives. These range from the CloneCard Pro for quickly cloning or duplicating laptop or notebook computers (without taking out the hard drive for drive duplication), to the Desktop WritePROtect enabling Logicube products to provide “write protection” during the image capture and hard drive duplication of hard drives (either direct to the drive or through the USB port).

Logicube also offers a multi-target SCSI drive duplicator. This standalone SCSI hard drive duplicator can clone up to four drives at once. The system also has a special cooling system to protect the high speed SCSI drives. This unique product is the only completely standalone, self-contained SCSI hard drive duplicator.

The OmniDiagnose optional hard drive data recovery software offers one of the most powerful features of the  Sonix and OmniClone Xi Systems. This powerful hard drive data capture software allows the user to quickly scan, diagnose, repair, recover, and prepare media for optimum performance. Data recovery is one of the most important features of these systems. Millions of computer users lose mission critical data every day and are often quite anxious to perform image capture operations.

While other data recovery processes are available, they are typically lacking in several areas. They may not find all deleted items in the data recovery process. Most do not include the scanning of a drive for bad or weak sectors so hard drive data recovery can be far more precise.  In addition to data recovery, OmniDiagnose includes a repair operation that is crucial to successful image capture.

This data recovery function is included in the forensic kit. The Forensic Talon® automatically performs this data recovery process.  Especially crucial to computer forensics, this data recovery process happens on the fly and automatically scans, identifies weak or bad sectors, finds deleted and encrypted data in order to facilitate complete data recovery.
